At age 11 Femita was in a car accident that resulted in the amputation of her right leg below the knee. It was a long journey from recovery, being bullied, physical insecurities, and re-establishing a new life. However, through the love and support from friends and family, especially her parents, 4 older sisters, and little brother, Femita was able to overcome all of these obstacles.
At 23, Femita received her first running blade from the Challenged Athletes Foundation and Ossur, and it changed her life. After only a few months of training with her new blade, Femita became the 100m National Champion and has held that title ever since. Femita is currently the fastest female amputee in the United States. While maintaining her athletic career, Femita also went on to earn her MBA in 2019 as well as a certification through ACE as a personal trainer.
Femita has participated in all major world competitions representing Team USA, including Rio 2016 & Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, World Championships (2017 & 2019), ParaPan American Games (Lima 2019).
In 2021, Femita became the first American amputee woman to be featured in Victoria's Secret campaign, #Undefinable Spotlight. Over the years, Femita has invested her time in giving back to the community. In addition to starting her own non-profit, Limb-it-less Creations Inc., she currently holds a board position on two outstanding non-profits, The Born to Run Foundation and Adaptive Sports New England. Her non-profit work is specifically aimed at providing sports and equipment opportunities to kids and adults with physical disabilities and offering mentorship to those
who need it.
Today, Femita is very focused on her athletic career as well as making a difference in her community. Through her journey as an athlete she has become very passionate about Public Speaking. Femita has spoken at several schools, corporate functions, and local community events to share her story, inspire those around her, and give back to her community.
